Under the Moonlight in Vietnam

While having my nails done today the manicurist talked about growing up in her small village in Vietnam, until her move to the United states in 1992. I commented that her English was remarkable. She told me she took classes when she arrived here and how hard it was. She went on to talk about the vast cultural differences between living here and her homeland.  Her village back home had little in the way of modern conveniences. She did not own a watch so she learned to tell the time of day by the position of the sun. When she went to school they had no electricity, so at night she would sit outside and read by the light of the moon. I asked her if she watches much television here. "No, cable is too expensive and I would much rather read." This gives new meaning to "less really is more."
