Chic on Nine in the Sunday Times

I am reticent to admit that I am mad for the New York Times Sunday column, "What I Wore," in the Styles pages. Unaware of it's history (I am often the last to jump on any bandwagon), I am strangely attracted to the idea of being a closet voyeur.  This week, the author, Sloane Crosley, 32, takes us from Saturday through Friday on a style diary journey.  She seems to spend a fair amont of time at the library, and anyone who appreciates the value of this public domain, one of my favorite haunts, is ok in my book.   It is not clear whether she is writing or researching, but since I often do the former, I feel a kind of  kindred spirit.  Following the chic women of New York on page nine takes me back to staking out an appropriately distanced table from the cool girls in the high school cafeteria.  I would assess their ensembles, making mental notes, unnoticed from the safety of the lunchroom table.  I do feel at a slight disadvantage as to the designer labels she is so familiar with, but then again, isn't that the point of this column?  I couldn't tell you the difference between Helmut Lange jeans and Goldsign jeans.  But I am concerned that while Sloane was wearing a Markus Lupfer sweater dress, Roberto Del Carlo boots and a Spiewak jacket last Friday, she left her United Bamboo gloves on the train coming back from a visit with her parents.
