The Great and Powerful Oz
Chewing on a piece of broccoli while preparing my breakfast of oatmeal, with ground flax, cinnamon, blueberries, strawberries and white tea, I think back to how quickly things have changed. A few months ago Dr. Oz recommended drinking green tea. A follower of his show, I have tried to keep up with the constant barrage of new information. I drink my second cup with a multiple vitamin, alas, Centrum Silver, as though I need to be reminded so early in the morning that I am 50+, vitamin D3, calcium, magnesium and a baby aspirin. Now the challenge is to find the time to eat the plethora of foods that will hopefully, and I am paraphrasing the wise and wonderful Oz, keep me healthy, from the inside out. Whole grains, like quinoa, fishes with omega-3, salmon, flounder and sardines. Bright colored vegetables and fruits. With each show, foods to combat heart disease, cancer, wrinkles and stress are revealed. Cashews, walnuts, almonds, pistachios, oranges, apples, tomato juice, bok choy, cooked tomatoes, artichoke, beets and papaya. Dark chocolate, with over 70% cocoa every day is no hardship, or jumbo shrimp for that matter. Olive oil, walnut oil and now the addition of coconut oil are all suggested. With only twenty-four hours in a day, it suddenly occurs to me that an Almond Joy candy bar would almost certainly kill three birds with one stone!
