Giada De Laurentiis and Me

Giada De Laurentiis was at our local Williams Sonoma for a book signing yesterday. I love Giada. I watch her shows on the Food Network, own all her cookbooks and purchased her line of kitchenware at Target. How did this one get by me?

It was already 9:30 in the morning when I read the article in the paper, thank you very much for the advance notice. The book signing was at 10:00 a.m. There's no way I would make it in time. But, how could I pass up this opportunity? I got in my car, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I parked as close to the entrance as I could and ran through the mall like a crazy girl, my pocketbook clanking against my hip, thinking all the while I should have worn a better outfit. I made my way through the crowd of mostly women, surprised I was able to buy two books, "Happy Cooking." After an hour and forty-five minutes, my number, one hundred and seventy, was called and I queued up inside the store. Oh my lucky day! And I knew exactly what I would say. I would tell Giada how great her cookbooks are and how my son loves her salmon in foil, how her recipes are my go to, fail proof and of course how beautiful she looks. Which she does, magnificent. A glowing beauty, who can cook and run an empire. I was beside myself with joy.

I watched in line as others made quippy remarks as Giada threw her head back, laughing, winking at them. And then suddenly I was standing in front of her, frozen, captivated by her smile, my mind completely and utterly blank. I mumbled, something about her energy and that she would probably need a nap...a nap? Giada politely smiled at my nonsense as in my head I screamed, "DO OVER!" Geeze.

Giada & Me!
