Foiled!

Since Husband's PD diagnosis I question every aspect of our lives, from what we eat, to cleaning products, to the fertilizer on our lawn. Are the lovely antique plates Mother-in-law gave us years ago filled with lead? What is in the cologne Husband wears? It's human nature to need to blame someone or something when things go wrong. It's uncomfortable to think we live in a haphazard world.

While preparing dinner last evening, organic salmon with organic zucchini and organic yellow squash, with organic olive oil and organic seasonings, I confidently toppled the yellow and green rounds onto a aluminum foil covered roasting pan and it suddenly hit me...aluminum..wait a minute.

Years ago there were murmurings about aluminum foil and neurological diseases...yada-yada-yada. Only alarmists and crazy people paid heed to such unsubstantiated reports; it might seep into our food and cause all kinds of havoc. I use foil constantly. As in always. It makes cleanup easy and it's recyclable. A win-win.

I began searching the Internet, my face flush with anguish.

"Aluminum foil is safe when used cold, like wrapping a sandwich for the fridge; however, using it hot, or even warm, the foil is degraded and SEEPS in the food."~Parkinson's Resource Organization.

Links to Web MD and The Washington post deny that there is any scientific findings to substantiate these claims. Oh me, oh my.

In the absence of any firm results I've decided not to use aluminum foil or aluminum pans. Into the recycling bin goes the remaining foil. And now I wonder, where will that be going?
