A Follow-Up, Because Apparently I Still Don't Know What I'm Doing

I've had a few questions from those of you who read my January 15th blog, Ricky Gervais is Right!, and wondered about the car incident. Now that my embarrassment has faded slightly, I suppose an explanation is in order.

I was driving forward, out of my parking spot at the mall that Sunday. A very good friend warned me when I got my SUV, "Park your car in the front spot so you can pull out, it's so much easier." Aha. As I pulled forward, (and apparently not straight enough) I suddenly heard the crunch of metal hitting metal. The right side of my car smacked the shiny white Mercedes convertible parked next to me (who must also have a friend who told her to park facing forward). That will teach us.

"I cannot believe I just hit that car." I muttered to my shaking self, as I walked towards the mall security guard, parked nearby. He and the police officer who arrived minutes later were most sympathetic. And when the owner of the car eventually arrived she was as kind as could be as I stepped towards her, the little orange pieces of her front headlight crunching under my feet.

My car has been repaired and hopefully the very nice lady's car too. My confidence is slowly making a comeback. But, it really is frightening how much damage you can do to a car by merely pulling out of a parking spot the wrong way.
