Chickens, Giada De Laurentiis, Flounder and Nemo

I give a lot of thought to food.  And after fifty some years of loving to eat, thinking about what I am going to eat, my love of the Food Network, Cooking Channel, Giada De Laurentiis, Ina Garten, Nigella Lawson and all things food, I'm not about to stop now.

Our stomachs, and kitchen, have been in a metamorphosis.  We gave up eating red meat quite some time ago (except for the traditional brisket during the Jewish holidays).  During my children's vegetarian phase we embraced all things tofu and vegetables, large and small.  And as of late we have been eating more fish than chicken.

And there is a reason for my reticence in the poultry department.   Driving on the interstate recently we passed a semi truck loaded to the gills (or in this case, feathers), with chickens, stacked one coop on top of the other.  Their white feathers blowing in the wind, I knew no good could come from this traveling chicken condo.  So, to show my solidarity for these feathered friends I am abstaining from chicken and concentrating on fish.

Last night I commented, rather proudly that a month had passed since I'd eaten any poultry.  As I served dinner, a new flounder dish, my husband, with a wry smile said, "Ellen DeGeneres was Flounder, in the movie, you know, about finding Nemo." Oh jeez!

Nemo and pal, Flounder!
