Impractical...I Think Not!

"Valentino, Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik, Payless. Yes, even Payless sometimes has cute shoes." We tossed these names about in conversation, sure anyone overhearing us would think we are completely and utterly obnoxious.

A friend, who's daughter is getting married next month was talking about the ups and downs of wedding planning. Her dress, finding shoes that are both cute and comfortable, (an oxymoron in the shoe world), wedding cake tasting, etc.

Midway through our commiserating she became teary eyed. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer years ago she prayed she would see this day. Now thankfully, healthy and well she will walk her daughter down the aisle.

And so we got to talking about the nature of such conversations. Whether it be clothing and shoes, or our hair. To highlight or not to highlight? Why do we feel the need to defend the frivolous? Where does this lack of balance come from? Do we think we don't deserve to be happy and light hearted, concentrating only on the ills and tragedies in the world?

Life can be hard, and we can't always be immersed in worry over the universe.  All things are relative. And sometimes we not only deserve, but need the distraction of pretty shoes, polished nails and the giddy and sometimes silly conversations about the seemingly most impractical things!
