Seen and Heard in Maine

During dinner yesterday three lively women were seated at a table next to us. They were smartly dressed in khaki pants, with freshly pressed button up shirts, the youngest of the three had a sweater tied around her hips, her collar popped. We surmised from their conversation they were Mainers; a daughter, mother and grandmother.

They were close enough for us to hear them order two Tanguerays with a twist of lime and a white wine for Grandmother, who blurted out, "I'm not scared of dying, I just don't want to stroke out!"  Granddaughter, who I'd guess to be about a young looking sixty, replied, "Don't worry, if you stroke out, I'll just push you down the steps!"  This banter, apparently an on going conversation, went on until we finished our meal.

Later in the evening, as we walked back from an outdoor concert to the Inn, we passed the daughter and mother, with no grandmother in sight.  I commented on this and Husband says, "I hope she didn't suffer!"
