It seems my metatarsal bone, the front pad of my foot, is giving me trouble. Used to be I didn't think about comfort, if a shoe looked cute, it immediately took up residence in my closet.
I purchased two ballet flats from Tory Burch and one from the very sensible, dare I say more mature store, Marmi. I walked around in the house for a good amount of time, but the ache returned and back they went. I'm almost at the point I don't care what the price is. I did happen to come upon some gorgeous flats in Saks. I made the mistake of slipping my foot into the floor sample...heaven. And then I turned them over...lets just say I could buy a small country. I am so relieved Christian Louboutin's and Jimmy Choo's don't fit my feet.
Anyway, happened to be talking to my dear friend, Beverly Adele, who was having a similar issue. She explained she now wears a half size larger in her shoes, with a gel pad. Brilliant! I put the pads in an old pair of flats that are a little big and it is amazing how much better they feel. There is nothing like sage advice from a friend. I do keep thinking about the shoes in Saks. But, another thing that comes with age, besides foot pain, is common sense. I'll just wait for them to go on sale.
