On the Mend...Lists...Smoke Alarms and Batteries!

I pride myself on being a girl with a plan, although I admit I wasn't always this way.

No, there was a time I floated aimless, a windblown dandelion fluff, without much thought to where I was headed or where I might land.  But, eventually you figure out that life passes you by without so much as a howdy-do without some planning, whether it be lists on bits of scrap paper, fancy leather bound planners, or chirping reminders from your cell phone.

And sometimes even that isn't enough.  I say this as someone emerging from a flu-like coma, the glaring squares of my calendar screaming, you forgot an anniversary...and a birthday and look, Chanukah looms on the horizon with barely a gift in sight.

I'm behind the eight ball because I let the hyper diligent planner in me get cocky. I ignored the shrinking greeting card pile on my desk, dwindling stamps, the possibility of sink holes, zombie invasions, blizzards and fire alarms, (which happened while Husband was away one night on business) and yes, the flu. I'm no loosey goosey, eleventh hour success story.  I don't work well under pressure!!!

So, as I try to ignore my sniffles and hacking cough and the lethargy that stubbornly hangs on I have written a list to end all lists.  In the future I will have plenty of tissues in the house, greeting cards, stamps and presents bought and wrapped well before they are needed.  There's too much we can't control, so it's best to try and have some semblance of control where we can and lots and lots of honey and tea bags in the cupboard and chicken noodle soup tucked away in the freezer and plenty of batteries for the smoke detector which beeped maddeningly into the wee hours of the night.
