Zzzzz's

Let's talk sleep and how to get some.  I thought I had tamed the beast, not so much.  And nothing good comes from too little sleep.  The other day I was putting a Band-aide on and called it a banana!

Now, you young ones, this barely applies to you.  Your lack of sleep is either from too much partying or babies.  Youth is on your side and eventually your babies will sleep through the night and you will bounce back.  That is why you have children when you are young.

In order for mid-life mommies to get the recommended seven or eight hours of sleep we cannot have any stress.  We need to know where our children and grandchildren are at all times so as not to worry.  We would also appreciate all contractors, repairmen and doctors to arrive and/or call back at the time promised.  All siblings, parents and in-laws should behave themselves while in our company.  We need our bodies to cooperate and not surprise us with any sudden hot flashes or mood swings.

In the most likely event that none of this happens we will have to take matters into our own hands.  We will try all methods available, short of drugs.  Warm milk.  Tart cherry juice, yes, cherry juice.  It is supposed to induce sleep. Chamomile tea.  Except we will have to get up in the middle of the night to use the facilities because of said liquids.

There are foods to eat that supposedly will lull you to dream land.  Cheese and nuts.  Or cheese and turkey.  Maybe a turkey and cheese sub.  But, then we will stress over the extra calories consumed and we'll never be able to fall asleep.

We will try herbal supplements.  All in the quest to feel rested, relaxed and clear headed.  And then on the evening news they will announce that the herbal supplement you are taking has been tainted and pulled from the shelves.  And then we will beg for drugs.
