Sometimes, when life gets too heavy, an unexpected diversion saves the day. Mine happens to be Mother-in-law's unfiltered commentary.
We celebrated her ninety first birthday last evening, at her independent living residence.
She complained about the food as she ate every course. When one of her card buddies stopped by to wish her a happy birthday, Mother-in-law yelled at her, "Stop talking, I want to introduce my family to you." Apparently, all civility flies out the window at ninety one.
The highlight was when they brought in the cake, and in typical Mother-in-law fashion she exclaimed, "You know I don't eat very much," as she finished off an entire fat slice. Which was followed up with her dismantling of the cake top decorations and downing of the chocolate signage.
Oh Mother-in-law, happy birthday!
