An Unexpected Gift!

I don't remember how it came up in conversation the other day, my daughter commenting about  compliments she receives from coworkers, impressed with her enlightened etiquette abilities.  Self-deprecating, she sweetly credited me with this cleverness, admiration I was happy to wear, even though most of what I know I learned from my mother.  That I readily admitted this to myself was a surprise.  After her passing a year and a half ago, feeling raw with the emotions of "what ifs," the layers of past pains have slowly begun melting away; happier memories filter through.  This birthright to my daughter, from a grandmother she barely knew is a gift worth realizing.
