Tory Burch, Saks and Tutus

"I'm going to Saks...to meet Tory Burch as she presents her Spring 2011 Collection,"  reads the black and white invitation.

Normally not one to attend such seemingly idle pursuits, assuming these soirees are relegated to the ladies who lunch brigade, this one piqued my curiosity.  And rarely being a lady who lunches, but assuming there would be food (and never one to turn down a good meal), and owning Tory apparel, it seemed like a good idea. Besides, ten percent of sales from the event go to the Tory Burch Foundation.

So, while showering this morning, I imagined the outfit I would smartly wear from head to toe!  I called promptly at ten to RSVP. The woman on the other end of the line informed me of the luncheon, to which she quickly added, was filled.  "I just got the card in the mail!" I responded, feeling a bit deflated. She put me on hold for a moment and when she returned she explained, "Well, I guess I will put you down as coming to the store, where Tory Burch will be, from one to two o'clock in the Tory department." Making sure I did not confuse "luncheon" with standing in the "area" where her clothes are displayed.

Feels surprisingly like first grade all over again.  Sitting eagerly at my desk, with my pink leotard in one hand and permission slip in the other, I anxiously waited to hear my name called for an after school dance program, only to be summarily sent home. My mother, mad as a hatter brought me back, where I joined the other tutu clad girls in line. I never knew what she said to the teacher, but it was my first and last ballet class, ever.
