Please refer back to blog, "Silverman's Rule of Engagement," September 30, 2009. If you don't have time, I can sum up said blog in a nutshell. Silverman's Rule, "Parents should not meet your children's girlfriend or boyfriend's parents until they are engaged."
We followed this rule to the letter when it came to our daughter. It is very easy when said parents are out of state. Our son has been dating a lovely young lady, and we aren't saying she is, and we aren't saying she isn't the one. But, if she is we would be very happy. Her parents live nearby and after over a year and half together, we would have to go out of our way to avoid our son's girlfriend's parents and that would seem rudely weird.
And when we found out said parents had no invites for Thanksgiving we asked them to join us.
We've had a change of heart...rules are made to be broken.
