Experience and age make you appreciate all the milestones, large and small with more depth and understanding. You know how fleeting time is and this is your chance to drink it all in.
You quickly realize there are things you will patiently do for your grandchild that you probably would never allow your own children to do, not that you don't love them more than life itself.
For example, sing thirteen renditions of a lullaby, until the little cherub falls asleep in your arms, while your back is killing you and the pain in your wrist is excruciating. But when you look at his face, you melt and all pain is forgotten.
You think it is cute when he flings his Sippy cup onto the clean floor and throws his food off his highchair tray.
You will let him eat on your freshly mopped floor, well, because one, it is clean, and two, you can't resist how adorable he is.
You will let him pick out anything he wants in the toy aisle at Target.
You will let him play with the shower spigot at the pool much longer than necessary.
You will let him sit in a pool float in the middle of your family room and pull him around in circles until you are dizzy.
You sleep better at night, because one, you're exhausted, and two, you're never happier than when you and your grandchild are under one roof.
