The fear part came when my aunt warned me of chiggers, just before we left. Thanks Auntie. These bugs live in the moss strewn trees of Savannah. They will bite you, she warned. This information was only mildly concerning.
However, when CN, who is rarely ever wrong, announced during dinner that you have to be careful of the brown recluse spider, which has a poisonous bite, known to be a menace in some southern states, Georgia being one, my anxiety grew exponentially.
They take up residence, usually in the month of August. CN, who resides in Virginia has witnessed these creatures first hand. Although we are in the month of May, this did not stop me from being scared witless. I was sure this arachnid was going to jump at me from a chigger infested tree; information I could have lived without.
Anyway, we really had a wonderful time. We ate, we talked, we toured and ate some more. There was laughter, there were tears. You should all take a trip to this beautiful city, just not in the month of August, when a chigger might fall on your head and the brown recluse spins it webs.
