What I Have Learned in 2014

The older I get, the less I know.

But, this I do know, each day brings something unexpected, sometimes big, sometimes so small, we may not even notice. And we can't possibly be fully prepared for what looms on the horizon. Even what we are positively, one hundred percent sure of, suddenly changes and morphs into something else. My height, weight and hair color, for example.

I am learning to try and live in the present. That's not to say one shouldn't plan for the future. But, there is a difference between planning and obsessing over things we have no control over.

I've learned not to judge people on first, second or third impressions. Treat everyone with kindness and I guarantee you will feel better for it. Even if someone steals your parking spot, or cuts in front of you in line, ignore the offense. Maybe they didn't see you, or they are late for a meeting with the boss, or they have a gun. Which in that case you should definitely turn the other cheek.

If you buy the new super sized Jet-Puffed Giant marshmallows to top your sweet potato pie with, it will brown much faster than the regular size and cause a small fire in the oven. I'm not saying that happened to me.

I am not defined by my weight. Gaining two, three, or four pounds does not make me a
bad person. It has taken me most of my life, so far, to realize I am judged by my character, not what the scale says.

Diaper your grandbabies properly, do not rush. I'm still working on that one. And kiss them, kiss them, and kiss them some more.

I could go on, but there's more important things for you to do than reading my blog. Go forth into the world and enjoy. Make time for those you love. And have a healthy and joyful New Year!
