Waxing Philosophical

I'd like to think we have a semblance of control over our lives; even when it seems impossible to rationalize what those reasons could possibly be.

I believe if we listen, life gives us little taps on the shoulder. That fender bender, which of course did not happen to me, may be a reminder to drive with more caution. The sore throat that brings you to the doctor's office turns out to be a common cold, but your doctor notices a mole that looks suspicious and you end up seeing a dermatologist. He removes a precancerous lesion and you learn to wear sunscreen and cover up between 10:0 A.M. in the morning and 2:00 P.M. in the afternoon. I'm just saying.

There's that old joke about the man who begs G-d to let him win the lottery. Week after week no mountains of wealth appear on his doorstep. He finally says to G-d, "You promised I'd win the lottery, but I'm still as poor as ever." G-d answers, "You have to buy a ticket first."

There's a reason for everything and there is absolutely, positively always a reason for hope. Life is only random if we do nothing; you have to buy a ticket.
