But, I know I will be of little help to anyone if I'm not in tip top form, mentally and physically. I've started exercising again, making it a priority, and having the confidence that Husband does not need me with him at all times. Another manifestation of my new normal is an insatiable appetite. Even too much of a good thing, is well, too much. I am no different than most people who eat more than they should when under stress.
So I decided to take matters of wellness into my own hands while Husband was away on business, (he's mostly been working from home). I went for a manicure and shopping. As a side note, the salon has a new vegan polish, Dazzle Dry. Your polish is rock solid in five minutes, lasts two weeks, no UV light to put your hands under, comes off like regular polish, and is healthy for your nails! As proof of this I was just scrubbing a large pan when I accidentally chipped a pretty sizable gash off the marble edge of the sink (YIKES), but my nails look fabulous! Anyway, I enjoyed tremendously strolling around the mall with my newly painted nails, bought a top, which I am returning, but I came home a new woman.
When my children were very small I ran into Husband's aunt on an outing, a gloriously wonderful woman. She said to me in my disheveled state, with two babies in tow, "You have to take care of yourself. Because no one else will." I didn't quite understand what she meant at the time, but I do now. I will not be a good wife or mother if I don't look after myself. As my wise friend Maggie Mae often says, "We can't always be the last one in line."
