I know the professional Ann Curry and I love you. My daughter loves you. You are a consummate journalist, that is indisputable. But, what saddens me is the way in which you were forced to leave your co-anchor position at the Today Show.
We have experienced your kindness first hand. We know because on more than one occasion you stopped and smiled at my daughter when she was a student, interning in New York City. It was one of those great, long deliberate smiles. At one event, Katie Couric's Colorectal Foundation Gala, you even stopped to compliment her dress. No one knew but you; the best kindness of all, when no one else is looking.
And so it is very unfortunate that the powers that be did not follow in your footsteps of grace.
And so I will leave you with a piece of advice I learned from a wise woman. Sometimes what you think is your second choice, turns out to be your first. You can check off your bucket list, co-anchor on the Today Show! In our eyes you successfully stepped into the role.
As a mother far away from her daughter in the big city, knowing my daughter was the recipient of your acts of courtesy and generosity of spirit brought me great comfort and so I thank you. One life truly touches many others.
And now we can't wait to watch all the places you'll go. Soaring, no doubt!
