Let's Discuss Car Shopping Monkey Business

So we went to our local dealership to purchase a car. We took a test drive while the salesman thought it might be a good selling tool to share the particluars of his recent hip surgery. "Dead bone, blood..." he went on and on, I just about passed out in the back seat. After reviving myself I then gave up three hours of my life, which I will never get back, to watch the salesman walk from his office to the manager's, to present our very reasonable offers, like he was doing us a favor.

Some federal law should be mandated that sets a fair price, without all the smoke and mirror shenanigans. Why do we put up with this?
